Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (March 22th, 2016) – The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry and local maritime industry partners including Maples and Calder, and Cayman Maritime Services Park, part of the Cayman Enterprise City Special Economic Zone, have joined forces to create a world-class annual event; Cayman Maritime Week. This effort epitomizes how one of Cayman’s pro-business Government authorities can work cohesively with the private sector to promote the jurisdiction globally and bring business to the islands.

The inaugural Cayman Maritime Week will take place from May 2nd - 4th at the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort on Seven Mile Beach. Leveraging Cayman’s highly-respected Shipping Registry and flag, Cayman Maritime Week was designed to attract international maritime industry leaders, ship owners, yacht managers and brokers and professionals from all areas of the maritime industry to a 3-day event, which will showcase Cayman as a growing maritime cluster.

Cayman Maritime Week has a packed and diverse agenda which includes the MARE FORUM 4th Cayman Islands Shipping Summit, an event for the Cayman Islands Ship Owner’s Advisory Council (CISAC) and a full day conference hosted by Digital Ship, one the world’s leaders in shipping IT news and maritime event hosting. The Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) will be holding a business luncheon and co-hosting an event with the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA).

"We are dedicated to promote the Cayman Islands as a growing maritime jurisdiction to industry leaders and professionals," said Sherice Arman, Maples and Calder Attorney and President of the Cayman Islands chapter of the Women's International Shipping and Trading Association. "Cayman Maritime Week will provide the perfect platform for conference attendees to learn more about Cayman as a maritime business hub and allow local companies to showcase their services."

The conference will cover maritime industry news, explore the latest technologies, innovations and trends, and include a number of forums with topics that include:

  • Developments in Maritime Communications
  • Smart Strategies for Energy Efficiency in Vessel Operations
  • Maritime Environmental Innovation and the Regulatory Landscape
  • Developments in navigation and ECDIS Performance
  • Crew Efficiency, Safety and Training

Local firms and companies associated with the maritime industry will be able to attend and become sponsors of the various events and to promote their services to an ideal audience during Cayman Maritime Week.

Conference-goers will also have the chance to experience Cayman’s sophisticated business infrastructure and pro-business environment up close. There will be a number of networking opportunities to mix and mingle with big maritime industry names, a good time to strengthen existing relationships or create new ones – there could be good deal flow during Cayman Maritime Week. Attendees will also enjoy some true Caymanian hospitality, food and entertainment at a networking dinner under the stars on Seven Mile Beach, which will bring Cayman Maritime Week to a close.

An added benefit to the timing of Cayman Maritime Week is the boost it will give to Cayman’s tourism industry during this traditionally slow time of the year. Good attendance at the conference means more business for local hotels, restaurants, watersports and car rental companies.

Organizers are going all-out to ensure that 2016’s Cayman Maritime Week is successful enough to create good buzz in the industry, making it a popular annual event for the worldwide maritime services industry.
